Victims of the Attacks:
According to Synergy’s documentation, the latest attacks during 10 and 11 December have resulted in:
– Kobani Countryside (Al-Ja’dah Village): Two civilians were killed, including a child, while two others were injured, one of whom is also a child.
– Ain Issa Countryside (Safiya Village): Eight civilians were killed, including two children.
– Targeting of an Ambulance: Two medical personnel were killed, and three others were injured on the Tishreen Dam Road.
– Targeting of a Civilian Car: A woman was killed and three others were injured, including a child, on Qaraqozak Bridge as they attempted to return to their home after being displaced from Manbij.
Escalating Violations:
In addition to these attacks, Turkish-backed factions of the Syrian National Army (SNA) have intensified their assaults on areas in Northeast Syria, causing dozens of casualties, including civilians, and seizing control of the city of Manbij amid escalating violence and widespread human rights violations. Meanwhile, the attacks have shifted towards the Kurdish city of Kobani, a historically significant symbol in the fight against ISIS, where hundreds sacrificed their lives in defense of humanity. Today, Kobani faces renewed violence, endangering its Kurdish population and minority communities, including Yazidis and Christians.
Consequences of the Attacks:
These assaults occure at a critical moment, as millions of Syrians had hoped for relief following the decline of the Assad Regime. While the United Nations and several countries have called on all armed parties in Syria to exercise restraint and halt the escalation, stressing the importance of respecting International Humanitarian Law (IHL), protecting civilians and prioritising dialogue, Turkey and its allied factions continue to commit severe violations against civilians, including killing, arbitrary detention, and property looting.
Calls for Accountability and De-escalation:
Synergy Association for Victims emphasizes the urgent need for an international investigation into the crimes committed in Northeast Syria and for those responsible to be held accountable in specialized international courts, calling for effective measures to protect civilians, ensure compliance with IHL, and halt military support to armed factions involved in these violations. Additionally, Synergy urges the activation of international monitoring and accountability mechanisms to stop the escalation and secure justice for the victims.
The persistence of these attacks exacerbates the suffering of civilians and threatens the stability of the region, requiring an immediate response from the international community to protect human rights and achieve justice.
